Mary J. Slater, 76 of Huntington passed away at 6:45 pm on Friday, March 11, 2016 at her residence. Mary was a 1957 graduate of Huntington High School. She had worked at Midwest Federal Credit Union in Huntington for over 25 years, retiring in the 1990’s. She had also worked as a secretary for several businesses in the Huntington area over the years. Mary was a member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Columbia City.
Mary was born on May 17, 1939 in Huntington, the daughter of James M. and Waneta P. (Wolfe) Pohler.
She was united in marriage to Ned E. Slater in LaGrange, Indiana. He preceded her in death on April 23, 1999.
Survivors include two sons: Keith (Kim) Schmittler of Huntington; Marty (Del) Schmittler of South Whitley; two daughters: JulieAnne Pohler of Huntington; Marianne (Ken) North of Punta Gorda, FL; three sisters: Marjorie (Lowell) Richardson of Andrews; Margaret (Richard) Jewell of Wichita, KS; Martha (Ralph) Kelsey of Huntington; a half-brother: James Moore of Midland, MI; 15 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 11:00 am at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2465 W. Keiser Road, Columbia City, Indiana with Pastor David Mommens officiating.
