Mary Elizabeth Richards

Mary Elizabeth Richards, 57, died Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at her Fairmount, Indiana residence.

Mary was proud to be the first of the triplets born on May 31, 1960, along with brothers Mark and  Martin, in Marion, Indiana to the late Earl E. and Virginia M. (Baker) Richards.  She graduated from Madison-Grant High School in 1978.  Mary was a great athlete.  She was the catcher for her high school soft ball team winning many state championships.  Mary was a hard worker.  She had previously worked at Golden Age Nursing Home and Driskill’s Market.  Working 7 days a week, she ran the News-Sun for the last 27 years as well as working at the Place Bar for 15 years.   Mary was a one of a kind individual,  independent with a strong sense of right and wrong, that wouldn’t hesitate to tell you what she thought but, generous to the core and would give you her last quarter if you needed it.  She was a great story teller,   always ready with one to make you laugh.  If you needed someone on your side, you wanted it to be Mary.  She loved her country home that she loving referred to as Petticoat Junction, with its fruit trees and garden as well as antiques.  She was a great soft ball player and loved being grandma to Malikye, Noah, and Layla Gray.

Mary is also survived by her daughter, Jillianne  (Anthony Gray) Enyeart, Hartford City,  siblings; Charles Richards, Marion, Marjorie (Cornelius) VanTuil, Colorado Springs, CO, Jim (Sheryl) Richards, Gas City, Martha (Ron) Rector and Marilyn (Mike) Jessie, both of Summitville, and Kenny (Kim) Richards and Mark (Patty) Richards both of Fairmount,   many nieces and nephews along with her faithful companion for 17 years “Spud”.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and brother Martin.

Arrangements for Mary have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana where there will be a visitation on Sunday,  January  7, 2018 from 2-6 PM.  Funeral for Mary is Monday,  January 8, 2018 at 10 AM at the funeral home, conducted by her nephew Christian Pollock and friend Cindy Spencer.
