Marvel King

Marvel S. King, 85, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, March 21, 2016. She was born to the late Leonard Brown and the late Nellie (McGriff) Brown on March 1, 1931 in Marion, Indiana. She married Robert King on June 14, 1949 in Marion, Indiana. He preceded her in death in 1980. Marvel worked for The Other Place for 13 years as a cook, was a cashier at Dollar General for 4 years, and she also worked for the Beef Station for 4 years. Marvel was a member of the Healing Heart Church of God, which she loved to attend. She loved to read her Bible and go fishing. One of her favorite pastimes was watching Gunsmoke with her brother Don.

Marvel is survived by four sons, Donald (Madonna) King, Jonesboro, IN, Paul King, Dave (Vickie) King, Van Buren, IN, and Leonard King, Gas City, IN; three brothers, Jack (Bonnie) Brown, North Carolina, Don (Linda) Brown, Marion, IN, and Ron (Doris) Brown, Marion, IN; three sisters, Carolyn (Bob) Messersmith, Marion, IN, Mary (Mike) Ancil, Marion, IN, and Edie (Floyd) Ancil, Marion, IN, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Robert, daughter Roberta Deshong, son Roger King, sister Norma June, and four brothers, Robert Brown, Phill Brown, Frank Brown, and Pete Brown.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, IN 46953, where there will be a visitation on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. A funeral service honoring Marvel’s life will be held on Monday after the visitation at 1:00 pm, with Rev. Delmar Fenwick officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
