Martin E. Young, 84 of Huntington, IN, passed away on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN.

Mr. Young was born on December 22, 1931, in Huntington, IN to Archie H. and Elizabeth (Pfister) Young. His parents preceded him in death. Mr. Young married Jacklyn Ferris on October 24, 1953, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, Indiana. Mrs. Young survives and resides in Huntington. IN.

Martin was a graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army and as a Combat Medic during the Korean War from 1951-1953; earning a Combat Medical Badge, a National Defense Korean War Service Medal, Presidential Unit Citation Badge, and two Bronze Stars. Martin worked for Erie Railroad as an Engineer and later Conrail Railroad from where he retired in 1993. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, VFW Post #2689, Isaac Walton League and Knights of Columbus Third Degree. He was a longtime Boy Scout Leader for the Elks Troop #123. He served as past president for the Huntington Metro Kiwanis and Lt. Governor for Wabash Valley Division of Metro Kiwanis from 2002-2003. He also served on several boards for the City of Huntington over the years, including Board of Public Works and Safety, Redevelopment Commission and was currently serving on the Economic Development Commission Board.

Along with his wife he is survived by three sons, Scott Young, Columbia City, IN, Christopher (Mary) Young, Williams, IN, Patrick (Carol) Young, Decatur, IN; three daughters, Christine (Robert) Cook, Richmond, IN, Julie (Jeffrey) Young-Miller, and Lisa Young, both of Huntington, IN.
He is also survived by one brother, James (Joyce) Young, Huntington, IN; two sisters, Carol Grove, Huntington, IN, and Janet (Johan) Brongers, Amherst, MA; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death is one sister, Norma Holzinger.

Calling hours will be on Monday, March 28, 2016 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with Father Ron Rieder presiding.

Burial will be on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Mt. Calvary Cemetery with Military Honors, Huntington, IN.

In Lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Mary Catholic Church for Masses or Riley Children’s Hospital in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
