PERU, Ind. – Corporate officials with Marsh Supermarkets have confirmed they will permanently close their Peru store due to unsubstantial sales. A spokesperson for the store said the 300 South Broadway store will officially close at 5PM Saturday, April 8th. The Indiana Business Journal reports the chain has steadily shrunk since Florida-based Sun Capital Partners acquired it in 2006 for $88 million in cash and the assumption of $237 million in debt. Marsh had 120 stores when the deal closed, and now only operates 67. Marsh told the Journal in a statement, “We are working hard to operate our business effectively in a highly competitive industry, and that means making difficult decisions about a few stores that are no longer viable.”
