Margaret was born on July 22, 1927 in Hammond, Indiana to the late James and Mary (Apathy) Vellner. She passed away on June 22, 2016 in her Marion home.

After graduating from Hammond High School in 1945 she continued her education at St. Margaret’s Hospital School of Nursing and graduated in 1949. She came to Marion in 1949 and worked as a Registered Nurse in the pediatric ward of Marion General Hospital until her retirement in 1987. Later she worked for her daughter, Liz, as a bookkeeper at Medi Scribe.

Margaret had a remarkable memory and never forgot a name or face. She was a kind, selfless lady and had a great ability to make everyone she met feel special. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved all of her family.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Rosary Society.

Margaret is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth (Steven) Spoonhoward, Marion; 2 grandchildren, Daniel (Lisa) Davidson, Fishers; Ashley Spoonhoward, Marion; 3 great-grandchildren, Matthew Davidson, Andrew Davidson and Lucy Davidson; nieces and nephews, Susie (Bill) Osborne, Julie (David) Stegman, Amy (Jimmy) Wood, Andy (Susan) Lawson, Linda (Jack) Trantham, Susan Tumosa.

She is also preceded in death by her husband, Ashton H. Short and brother, James Vellner.

Visitation will be held from 4pm-8pm, Tuesday, June 28, 2016 in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana.

The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 10:30am in St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Rd, Marion, Indiana with Rev. Richard Weisenberger officiating.

The burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, Indiana. Memorial contributions can be directed to St. Paul Catholic Church.
