Margaret Mary “Peg” Karst, 91, of Fort Wayne, IN, a native of Huntington, IN, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2016, at 10:30 p.m. at Saint Anne Home, Fort Wayne, IN.

Mrs. Karst was born on August 9, 1924, in Huntington, IN, to George C. and Mattie (Hoover) Young. Her parents preceded her in death. She married Norbert F. Karst on April 26, 1947, in Huntington, IN. He preceded her in death on September 14, 2003.

Mrs. Karst was the loving mother of seven children. She was a resident of Huntington for 81 years before moving to Saint Anne Home in Fort Wayne, IN. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Huntington, IN, and was very active in Church activities including the Rosary Sodality. She was an avid supporter of Huntington County Right to Life and a member of Widows of Prayer. She also served as a reading tutor at Huntington Catholic School and volunteered at the Village School for Special Children. After retirement she spent many winters in Fort Myers, FL where she volunteered for several charitable organizations.

Mrs. Karst is survived by four daughters, Linda (Larry) Salz, Tonica, IL, Mary (Wayne) Ristine, Huntington, IN, Christine (Keith) Denning, West Chester, OH, and Karen Ehinger-Williams, Brownsburg, IN. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren, and her dear friend Paul Karr of Fort Wayne, IN.

In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by an infant son, John Joseph Karst; two daughters, Barbara Ristine, Michele Klacik; two brothers, Philip E. Young, George F. Young, and a sister, Sister Mary Roberta Young.

Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday July 9, 2016 at the funeral home. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at 12:00 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN 46750 with Fr. Stephen Colchin presiding.

Burial will be in Mt Calvary Cemetery, Huntington, IN.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary Catholic Church in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
