Major Richard L. Gibson

Major Richard L. Gibson, born July 17, 1930, passed away on February 22, 2018 at age 87 in Peru, Indiana at Blair Ridge Health Campus. He was the son of the late Roy T. Gibson and Margaret Grace Gibson (Porter). He was married to Barbara Ann Clute on June 5, 1951 in Hale, MO. and she survives.

Richard was a graduate of Hale High School, Hale, MO. After graduation he joined the United States Air Force and retired after 20 years of distinguished service. He continued his education by attending a Nursing Home

Administrator class and became the Administrative of Peru Nursing Home in Peru, IN. He worked at Santa Fe grain elevator, attended Ivy Tech where he completed the HVAC courses and worked a short period in this trade. Then worked for Pinkerton Security as a guard at Thrush, Peru, IN and General Tire, Wabash, IN.

Richard was a member of The American Legion Peru Chapter 77, Peru Barbershop Chorus, and the Oakdale Baptist Church where he held positions as Deacon, Trustee and was a member of the choir.

Survivors include his wife Barbara, daughter Beverly and husband Jerry W. Shepherd, Galveston, IN. Son Richard L. Gibson Jr. wife Patricia, Springfield, OH, and daughter-in-law Cyndi Gibson, Grand Rapids, MI. Granddaughter Linette Stevens husband Kevin, Peru, IN, grandson Patrick wife Shari Gibson, Johnstown, OH and granddaughter Elizabeth, husband James Ingles, Westerville, OH. and grandson Nicholas Gibson, Grand Rapids, MI. Also six great grandchildren: Alex and Alyssa Stevens, Lydia and Joey Gibson, and Blake and Anissa Ingles.

The family would like to send a special thanks to Blair Ridge Health Campus, Frenius Dialysis Center, Peru, IN, the YMCA transportation team and all the staff at American Health Network Center who assisted in his care.

Visitation will be held from 2pm – 4pm on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru, Indiana.  Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 10am at the Oakdale Baptist Church, 348 Chili Avenue, Peru, Indiana, with Pastor Robert Stuck officiating.  Burial will follow at Ever-Rest Memorial Park, Cass County, Indiana, with military service provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit.

Memorial contributions may be made to the YMCA transportation department.
