Lowell was born in Indianapolis on August 10, 1929 to the late George and Mary (Woolbright) Sanders. He passed away on July 4, 2017 in Wesleyan Health Care, Marion.

Lowell spent all of his life in Grant County and upon returning from his military duty with the United States Navy he worked for the former Owens Glass and Glass Container. Later he worked for RCA, Morman Feed, the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired from the Chronicle-Tribune in 1994. He married Beverly Mathias on July 14, 1957 and together they had four children.

In Lowell’s free time he enjoyed spending time with his queen, Beverly and his children and grandchildren. He had a fondness for trains and the railroad, he loved fireworks on the 4th of July, eating at Penguin Point and he loved animals. Lowell never met a stranger and made many special friends through his outgoing personality. He was a devoted member of the former Central Christian Church and very much enjoyed his time with the church and his church family.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Beverly Sanders, Marion; four children, Vickie Edwards, Indianapolis; Koletta (Reggie) Spencer and Katrina (John K.) Hunter, both of Gas City; Tammy (Alan) Keith, Mesa, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Brian Burton, Corey Burton, Nathaniel (Amanda) Spencer, Tiffany (Mike) Hehe, Chance Hunter, Tyler Hunter, Christine Hewitt and Vanessa Carpenter; several great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11am until the time of service on Monday in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana.

The funeral will be at 1pm on Monday, July 10, 2017 in the funeral home with Pastor Terry Bishir officiating.

The burial with military honors will immediately follow in Riverside Cemetery, Gas City.
