Louis “Louie” Nathan Price

Louis “Louie” Nathan Price, 93, of Marion, passed away at 11:26 p.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Visiting Nurse Hospice Home in Fort Wayne.  He was born on December 24, 1924, to the union of Rev. Edgar O. Price and Jessie R. Wills.  He was united in holy matrimony to Mary Catherine Fisher on December 24, 1951, and she preceded him in death on October 14, 2004.

Louis graduated from Marion High School in 1942.  Following his graduation, he enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946.

Louis bowled in several leagues during his lifetime.  He was a member of USBC and the National Bowling Association and was inducted into the Marion Men’s Bowling Association Hall of Fame in 2009 in the Star of Yesteryears category.  He was an avid softball player and played 3rd base on the CC Rens, Flashes, and the Marion Jets.  He also umpired baseball and softball leagues.  Louis loved his baseball caps and collected a vast amount of caps from several places in the United States and throughout the world.

Louis worked for RCA for 40 years, retiring in 1990.  He accepted Christ at an early age at Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a member.  He later joined Greater Second Baptist Church and served faithfully for several years on the Senior Usher Board until his health failed, and he was also a member of the Men’s Chorus.  He was a 50-year member and Past Worshipful Master of Wilson Lodge No. 12, Free and Accepted Masons, as well as a member of AmVets Post #5.

He lovingly leaves three daughters, Sheron Carson and Tiajuana Black, both from Marion, and Vella Price, Bloomington; two sons, Edgar Price, Marion, and Valjean Price, Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 35 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Charlotte L. Price, Williamsburg, Virginia; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Preceding Louis in death were his step-mother, Nellie H. Price; five sisters, Mary E. Wright, Della E. Holiday, Sallie D. Betts, Martha A. Smith, and Wilma F. Knight; two brothers, William R. Price and Edgar O. Price, Jr.; two sons, Gary L. Smith and Lewis Price; three grandchildren; and six nieces and two nephews.

Friends and family may call from 1 to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Great Second Baptist Church, 705 W. 26th St., Marion, IN.  Masonic Rites will be given at 6:30 p.m.  An additional visitation will be available one hour prior to the service on Friday, from 11 a.m. to 12 noon.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, March 2, 2018, at the church with Elder Thomas Nukes officiating.  Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity, Marion.
