Loraine J. Oxley, 96 of Huntington passed away at 4:41 am on Monday, May 8, 2017 at Oakbrook Village. She was a 1940 graduate of Eminence High School, south of Indianapolis. She had lived at Oaktown, IN during WWII and worked at a Naval Facility where they filled cups with blasting powder. They had to stand behind a 3 foot cement wall in case the powder blew up as a safety precaution.
Loraine worked at restaurants and also at RCA in Indianapolis. After moving to Huntington, she worked at a restaurant called the Wooden Shoe for 4 years. She also worked at Schacht Rubber Company for 17 years and then she worked at HK Porter for 11 years.

Loraine was born on April 4, 1921 in Morgan County, Indiana the daughter of Daniel F. and Mary R. (Wilhite) Pleake.

She was united in marriage to her first husband, Malcolm Buckles, they divorced and she later married her second husband, Herbert D. Oxley on May 16, 1958 in Huntington, he preceded her in death in 1989.

Survivors include a niece and caregiver: Jeanette (Marvin) Tudor of Huntington; two nieces: Sharon Hobbs of Huntington; Charollette Wheeler of Marion; and several other nieces and nephews; two great nieces: Kathy (Kevin) McIlrath of Huntington; Cindy (Steve) Gray of Huntington; a great nephew: Mitch (Jackie) Hobbs of Huntington; and several other great and great-great and great-great-great nieces and nephews. A brother: Daniel (Bud) Pleake, Jr. of Brazil, IN and a sister: Maxine English of Bainbridge, IN.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers: Helen Marie Miller, Kathleen Wood, Jewel (Buck) Pleake, Lowell Pleake, Richard Pleake and Lucille Myer.

There will not be a visitation or funeral service.

Memorial donations can be made out to Huntington County Humane Shelter or to Oakbrook Village both in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
