Lee (Leandrew) Broomfield Jr., 89, of Peru, passed away at 8:36 A.M., Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Peru. He was born in Jackson MS, on September 12, 1927, the son of Lee and Ollie Mae Jackson Broomfield, Sr. Lee was raised by his maternal grandmother, Jessie Mae Jackson until her death in 1938, when he was eleven years old. Lee married Modestine Ward in 1979 and she preceded him in death in 1998. A World War II Veteran, Lee joined the US Navy at the age of 17 in 1944 serving as a Petty Officer 1st Class in Guam during WWII. He started his career as a bus boy for the Robert E. Lee Hotel in Jackson, MS, worked at Marion Malva Steel Company, Marion, IN, was a truck driver for Spencer Coal, Co., Chicago, IL and retired at the age of 65 from Parkview Metal Products, Inc., Chicago, IL. Lee moved from Chicago to Peru in 2010.

Surviving are step-children Robert L. Burnett, Jr. of Peru, Lula B. Woolfolk of Peru and Rosetta Trotter of Carson, CA; half-sisters Dela Leonard of Detroit, MI and Cassandra Broomfield of Milwaukee, WI and a step-sister Velma Lee Broomfield of Marion, IN. He was preceded in death by his mother one week after his birth, his father his wife, Modestine, his paternal grandfather Frank Broomfield who was a Cherokee Indian, half-brothers J.C. Broomfield and L.A. Broomfield, half-sisters Ethel Scott, Nina Broomfield and Dorothy White.

There will be no visitation or funeral service. Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to Miami County Helping Hands.
