Larry Gene Wagner, 85, passed away  August 24th after many years of struggling with Alzheimer’s disease.  Larry was born July 16, 1932 in Marion, Indiana. As a young man Larry was proud to serve his county during the Korean War as an Army Paratrooper.  When he came home he was a Marion police officer.  He worked for American States Insurance in Marion and then Kansas City.  He became an executive with Home Insurance Company in Kansas City and St Louis. After retiring he opened Wagner Claims Management, Inc. in Springfield Missouri.  Larry enjoyed spending time at his lake home on Tablerock Lake, attending sporting events, volunteering for Shriners children’s hospital where he would drive  children with their families to St. Louis.  He was a boy scout leader, little league coach, PTA president, president of Sertoma and board member for Boy’s and Girl’s Club in  Springfield. He held memberships in the Elks and Shriners.

 

 Preceded in death by his mother Opal (Ringo) Wagner Larkin, stepfather George Wagner, father Dale McPhilliamy.  Surviving are his daughter Jan (Bob) Thomas of Fort Wayne, In, son Brad (Anne) Wagner of Portland, Or,  Granddaughter Angie (Dustin) Montgomery, Grandson Dr. Sean (Betsy) Thomas, Sisters Sandy (Glenn) Fitzjarrold, Barb (Hagan) Amburgey and Mary (David) Howard.


A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 30th, 2017 at 11 am at Heritage Pointe Chapel, 801 Huntington Ave. Warren In. with Pastor Gerald Moreland officiating.
