Kim I. Melson, 65, of Peru, passed away at 12:13 P.M., Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born in Peru on July 25, 1951 the son of Harry and Berdean Kuhns Melson. Kim married Lucy Livingston in Crown Point, IN on March 27, 1971 and she survives. Kim was a 1969 graduate of Peru High School and was a Fire Fighter at Grissom AFB until his retirement in 2006. He was an avid hunter and a member of the Treeing Tennessee Brindle Assn. Animals received unusual compassion from Kim’s care. Family was very important to Kim and he was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather. Surviving in addition to his wife Lucy is his mother Berdean Melson of Peru, daughters Shelly Rice and her husband Tim of Valparaiso, IN and Alyssa Bradley and her husband Jason of Warsaw, IN; grandchildren Jackson Rice, Georgia Rice and Alexis Bradley; sisters Linda Mock and her husband Jim of Peru and Cindy Stehlik and her husband Randy of Ft. Wayne, IN; in –laws Velma and Jack Livingston of Peru and brother-in-law Brett Livingston and his wife Debi of Poplar Bluff, MO. He was preceded in death by his father Harry and an infant daughter Stacey. A service celebrating the life of Kim I. Melson will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, June 26, 2017 at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 West Main St., Peru with Pastor Steve Reshkus officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Peru. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M., Sunday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made through the funeral home to Visiting Nurse Foundation, 5910 Homestead Road, Fort Wayne, IN 4681.
