Katherine “Kate” Sumpter, formerly of Amboy, passed away at 7:05 AM, Monday October 31, 2016 in Gulfport, Mississippi. She was born in Miami County on February 13, 1920 the daughter of William and Helen North Venis. Kate married Charles Sumpter on March 3, 1941 and he preceded her in death on August 5, 2004. Kate was a graduate of Amboy High School and a member of the Amboy United Methodist Church. She is survived by a son Kent Sumpter and his wife Jan of Converse, Indiana a daughter Deborah Lytle and her husband Robert of Gulfport, Mississippi; grandchildren Melinda Sumpter, Patrick (Kristi) Sumpter and Mia (Ryan) Nadeau; great grandchildren Matthew (Brittany) Hisey, Marlee Sumpter, Garrett Sumpter, Jackson Knowles, Cole Nadeau, Leigha (Drew) Misner, Garrett Shields, Logan Shields and Makenna Titus and great-great grandchildren Keagan Magee, Conner Hisey and Dominik Hisey. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles a great grandson Mark Sumpter, sisters Athlene Fike, Willadean Mann and Pauline Norris and a brother Byron Venis. A service celebrating the life of Kate Sumpter will be held at 3:00 PM, Thursday November 3, 2016 at Amboy United Methodist Church, 202 E. Pennsylvania Avenue, Amboy, IN with Rev. James McDowell officiating. Burial will be in the Park Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00-3:00 PM Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Amboy United Methodist Church.
