Junior M. Fones

Junior M. Fones, 88, Gas City, went to be with the Lord at 10:40 a.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2017, at the Marion VA Medical Center. He was born in Marion on July 27, 1929, to the late Joseph and Martha (Vice) Fones, and was a lifelong resident of Grant County. He married Gloria D. Buckler on February 14, 1986, and she survives.

Junior was a 1949 graduate of Marion High School. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953 during the Korean War, where he was a landing craft crewman in Fort Worden, Washington. Following his military service, he worked at Dana Corp. for two years before finishing his career at the Marion VA Medical Center. He worked there for 30 years as the supply office supervisor until his retirement. Junior was a member of Resurrection Lutheran Church, Gas City Masonic Lodge 646 for 25 years, and was also involved in the Shriners. He was honored by the Governor of Kentucky as a Kentucky Colonel and was a life member of American Legion Post 368 in Van Buren.

He was an avid painter and enjoyed giving his artwork to family. He also enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, whether it was hunting mushrooms, squirrels, rabbits…or just being outside. Junior was a compassionate, strong, resilient, and loving man who will be missed by all who were blessed to be in his life.

Survivors include his loving wife of 31 years, Gloria; children, Dawn Teofrio, Marion, and Michelle (Martin) Fones-Fall, Indianapolis; step-children, Chris (Jeri) Woods, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Denver (Tammy) Woods, Upland; grandchildren, Jon, Jason, Corinne, Catrina, Kristen, Brandon, and Derick; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, and friends; and best friend, David Koldyke.

He was also preceded in death by five brothers and five sisters.

Family and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with Junior’s funeral service beginning at 1 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN. Pastor James Tillison will be officiating with burial following at Jefferson Cemetery in Upland.
