Josephine A. “Jo” Sands

Josephine A. “Jo” Sands, age 91, of Huntington, passed away Friday December 8, 2017 at 7:07 am at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne. She had worked at Wabash Magnetics for 23 years, retiring in 1988.  She was a member of College Park United Brethren Church, volunteered at Love INC and LaFontaine Center, and enjoyed crocheting, dancing, country music and camping.

 

Jo was born December 17, 1925, in Huntington, the daughter Franklin and Esther (Nunemaker) Denton.  On March 14, 1942, she married her beloved husband of 45 years Eldon M. Sands.  He passed away February 10, 1986.  She is survived by a daughter Sandy (Marvin) Kuntz of Abilene, Kansas, 2 sons Jay Dee (Carol) Sands of Hartford City and Randy (Kathi) Sands of Huntington, 13 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and a brother Richard “Dick” (Joyce) Denton of Huntington.  She was preceded in death by a son Ted Sands, a daughter Nancy Sands-House, granddaughter Sonja Ottinger, 2 grandsons Troy Dean Kuntz and Mark Sievers, 2 brothers Ralph Denton and Dale Denton, and 2 sisters Frances Miller and Velma McCracken.

 

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 10, from 2-4 pm at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel, and one hour prior to the 10:30 am funeral service Monday. December 11, at the funeral home. Pastor Gary Dilley will officiate.  Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County.
