Joseph A. Yerkes, age 68, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Huntington, passed away Monday, November 21, 2016 at 4:43 am at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home, Fort Wayne.  He graduated from Huntington North High School in 1967, attended Taylor University and graduated from Huntington College in 1971.  He worked for HK Porter, Memcor, the Erie Lakawana Railroad, and the Red Cross of Lafayette, then moved to Colorado where he worked in sales and marketing management at Business Week Magazine in Denver, and then as Vice President of Colorado Deck & Fence.  He served in the US Air Force and was a member of American Legion Post #1992.  He was an avid Denver Bronco fan, enjoyed golfing and loved spending time with his family.

 

Joseph was born February 10, 1948, in Huntington, the son of Alvin and Myria “M” Janet (Vickery) Yerkes.  He is survived by partner in life Shirley Kaylor, a daughter Jennifer (Curt) Wendel of Ossian, a son Joseph Yerkes Jr. of Cincinnati, 2 grandchildren Molly Wendel and Anthony Yerkes, and a brother Mathew (Debby) Yerkes of Cincinnati.

 

Visitation will be held Sunday November 27 from 2-6 pm at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel and one hour prior to the 10:30 am funeral service Monday, November 28 at the funeral home.  Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.
