John Lewis Waggoner, 88, of Wabash, Indiana, died at 9:55 pm, Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at Wellbrooke of Wabash. He was born November 2, 1928 in Wabash, to Quincy and Mary (Bricker) Waggoner.

John was a 1946 graduate of LaFontaine High School. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving as an engineer during WWII. He first married Marilyn Mendenhall on February 18, 1951, she died December 17, 1998. He married Mandy (Martin) Bechtol in April of 1976; she died January of 1997. John worked for Container Corporation in Wabash, retiring in 1992, after 36 years. He was a lifetime member of the Wabash VFW Post 286 & American Legion Post 15. He was an active participant in the military funeral honor guard. He enjoyed fishing and telling stories.

He is survived by four children, John Keith (Kim) Waggoner of Kingston, Tennessee, Lottie Waggoner, PhD of Wabash, Paula Stephens of Syracuse, Indiana, and Donna (Lee) Myers of Roann; special friend, Sue Bennett of Roann, Indiana; nine grandchildren, Kurt (Christina) Waggoner of Marietta, Georgia, Kenneth Waggoner of Amelia Island, Georgia, Kirby (Lindsay) Waggoner of Kingston, Tennessee, Cassie (Mitch McMichen) Stephens of Brentwood, Tennessee, Kris Stephens of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Angela (Joe) Auler of Roann, Brandalyn (Todd) Sites of North Manchester, Indiana, Emily (Brad) Dillon of Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Steven (Emily) Myers of Wabash, 12 great-grandchildren; two step-daughters, Kie (Leon) Kirk of Wabash, and Mary Beth (Bob) Snyder of Charlotte, North Carolina, seven step-grandchildren, and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Helen Peterson, Marjorie Leckrone, and Virginia Stouder, and his step-daughter, Sandra Conley.

Funeral services will be 11:00 am Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, with David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Lincolnville. Friends may call 9:30-11:00 am Saturday, at the funeral home.
