John H. Carpenter, 69, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, at 9:58 a.m., at his residence.
Mr. Carpenter was born on February 20, 1947, in Andrews, Indiana to John L and Melba (Mylar) Carpenter. His parents preceded him in death. He married Linda Mitchell on November 23, 1968. She survives and resides in Huntington, IN.

Mr. Carpenter was a graduate of Andrews High School. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, IN. He retired from General Electric in Fort Wayne after 41 years of service, during which time he served as Union President for the Local I.U.E chapter 901 for 13 years. He served 2 years in the United States Army during the Vietnam era, stationed in Germany

John is survived by two sons, Cole Carpenter, Josh Carpenter, both of Huntington, IN. Grandchildren, Noah Carpenter, Brandon Carpenter, Amelia Wade and Julian Wade. He is also survived by one brother and five sisters. Ken (Kelly) Carpenter of Fort Wayne, Beverly (David) Carroll of Huntington, Linda (Merdedith) Hanselman of Andrews, Mary (Richard) Lott of Seminary MS, Rita (Mike) Marchand of Huntington, and Anita (Kit) Harrell of Huntington.

Calling hours will be held on Friday December 30, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN. Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Additional calling hours will be held on Saturday December 31, 2016 one hour prior to Mass from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Huntington, IN.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday December 31, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN, with Fr. Stephen Colchin presiding.

A private burial will be at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St Mary Catholic Church in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
