John Dale Ulrich

John Dale Ulrich, 69, of Huntington, IN, passed away at his residence on Wednesday, December 20, 2017.

John was born on January 5, 1948, in Chicago, IL, to M. Dale and Marjorie Dee (Bone) Ulrich. His parents preceded him in death.

During John’s youth he lived in Highland, IN, and spent his summers on the farm near Goblesville with his sister, grandparents Nettie and Errett Bone and cousins, Karen, Nancy, Bob and Bill Roth.

Mr. Ulrich graduated in 1966 from Highland High School, Highland, IN, and attended Indiana State and Ball State University. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. For several years John worked on the police force in Boulder, CO. Following the police force he worked with Target stores and lived in California, Colorado and Minnesota and became head of security for the western region. In 2002, he retired to the family homestead near Goblesville and began working with the Huntington County Senior Center and eventually became Assistant Director and developed the Senior Expo which is held on the grounds of Huntington University each spring.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Anne McPherson, Thornton, CO; nephew, David (Shannon) McPherson, Greeley, CO; and three great nephews, Noah, Adin and Isaiah McPherson. His beloved dogs, Max and Duke preceded him in death.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.

A Memorial Service will follow the calling hours on Tuesday, December 26, 2017, at 3:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750, with Pastor Jason Parsons officiating.

There will be a private burial at a later date at Beech Grove Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
