Joan “Dubie” S. Fennimore, 80, Jonesboro, died at IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie on Friday, January 6, 2017, at 10:38 p.m., due to injuries she received from an automobile accident. She was born in Upland to Eugene and Nora (Vaughn) Stanley on August 8, 1936. She married George Fennimore on July 14, 1956, and he survives.

Dubie was a homemaker following retirement from Mississinewa School Corporation after 20 years, where she served as Cafeteria Manager for Westview Elementary School.

She enjoyed playing shuffleboard at the American Legion, Post 95, where she was a member. Some of her favorite times were spent playing a heated game of canasta with her sisters. She was a voracious reader and shared many books with her friends and nieces. She and George were members of Rodmasters Car Club for many years, and they spent wonderful weekends at car shows with their 1939 Ford Coupe. Nothing brought Dubie joy like gathering her family for a meal of her famous noodles or bean dumplings and fried potatoes.

There was nothing more important to Dubie than her husband, George, the love of her life for more than 60 years. They enjoyed having breakfast together with friends, eating lunch at their favorite spot, the Sirloin Stockade, and spending evenings holding hands side-by-side with their dog, Fannie. Their love story is a treasure to anyone that knew of them and an inspiration to so many.

Dubie shared the kind of unconditional love with family and friends that the world needs more of. She was a ray of sunshine, always filled with joy. She was a fierce competitor, not to be beaten in a game of Scrabble, and she chose to celebrate life with laughter.

She will be greatly missed by survivors, including loving husband, George; her two sons and pride and joy, Steve (Kent Shuff) Fennimore and David (Statia Massafaro) Fennimore; five grandchildren, Katie Morgan, Betsy (Debbie) Koliba, Megan (Jarret) Schenk, Nicole Fennimore, and Cole Fennimore; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Trevor, Lizzie, Lainey, and Hazel. She is also survived by a brother, John (Kay) Stanley, and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, and two brothers.

Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 11, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN.

Services are at 10 a.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor Richard Martin officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Marion-Grant County Humane Society, P.O. Box 1921, Marion, IN 46952.
