Visitation will be from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 30, 2017 at Huntington Church of the Nazarene, 1555 Flaxmill Road, Huntington, with Rev. Gene Vickery and Rev. Worlie Newsome officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory in Huntington County with military graveside rites performed by VFW Post #2689 of Huntington.
Jerry was born April 12, 1930 in Huntington County, the son of Dallas P. and Eugenia (Stumm) Smith. He graduated from Huntington High School in 1949 and served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He married Janet S. Roach on November 22, 1953 in Bedford, Indiana; she preceded him in death on November 25, 2011. Jerry retired from International Harvester in Fort Wayne after 31 years of service in computer operations. He worked for both Huntington City and County as Computer Manager from 1988-1999. He was a member of Huntington Church of the Nazarene where he attended the Men’s Breakfast group and enjoyed being a door greeter; after retirement, he served in the visitation ministry.
Survivors include three sons – Rick G. (Susie) Smith of Fort Wayne, Scott S. (Cathalene) Smith of Huntington, and Mark T. (Lisa) Smith of Conyers, Georgia; two daughters – Cheryl A. Kast of Fort Wayne and Carol S. Miller of Charlotte, North Carolina; ten grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and a son-in-law, Michael H. Kast.
