Jeanne Margaret Eckert, 97 of Huntington passed away at 9:28 am on Friday, at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Jeanne was a 1938 graduate of Huntington High School. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Rosary Sodality and PSI IOTA XI Sorority. Jeanne had volunteered at the Huntington Memorial Hospital for several years.
She was born on October 29, 1920 in The Village of Deposit, New York, the daughter of John M. and Margaret P. (Emig) Galleher.
She was united in marriage to William J. D. Eckert on August 13, 1942 at St. Mary Catholic Church. They were married for over 65 years. He preceded her in death on August 31, 2009.
Survivors include a daughter: Susan J. Emley of Huntington; a sister: Betty Henry of Lake Webster; three grandsons: Matt (Deb) Emley, Mike (Terri) Emley, Dan (Kathy) Emley, two great grandchildren, seven step great grandchildren and several step great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Jack Galleher, Bobby Galleher, a sister: Goldie Vandervort and a great granddaughter.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 from 9:00 am – 10:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 903 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at 10:00 am following visitation at the St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Steven Colchin officiating.
Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery at a later date.
