Jean E. Rice, 89, Warren, IN passed away on Sunday, May 8, 2016, at 11:00 p.m. at Heritage Pointe, Warren, IN.

Mrs. Rice was born on August 8, 1926, to Clarice and Naomi (Caley) Redding in Zanesville, IN. Her parents preceded her in death. She married Harry W. Rice on December 30, 1945, in Huntington, IN, and he currently resides in Warren, IN. This past December they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. They lived the majority of their married life in Huntington, but enjoyed 25 years of living in Florida prior to moving back to Indiana in 2000.

Mrs. Rice was a 1944 graduate of Huntington High School. She worked as a Nurse’s Aide at Huntington Memorial Hospital for 17 years. She also worked for Dr. William Fritch as a surgical aide while living in Florida.

Jean was active in serving at Evangelical United Brethren Church which is now the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Huntington. She was also active in children’s ministries and missionary society. She was known for her beautiful soprano voice. She shared her gift with the church and blessed those who heard her sing hymns at Heritage Pointe the past few years. She was also a member of Venice Bible Church in Venice, FL. She served as a volunteer at Bon Secours Venice Hospital in Florida.

Survivors include two daughters, Judith A. (Wayne) Randall, Huntington, IN and Debra S. (Peter) Deal, Midland, MI; seven grandchildren, Laurie (Andrew) McNeil, Lisa (Jeff) Mohler, Patti Randall, Kim McCaslin, Christel (Dave) Mulder, Adam Deal, Rebekah Deal; and 16 great grandchildren.

Along with her parents she was preceded in death by one brother, Richard J. Redding.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, Applegate Chapel, 801 Huntington Avenue, Warren, IN.

Funeral services will be held following the calling on Friday, May 13, at 11:00 a.m. at Heritage Pointe, Applegate Chapel, 801 Huntington Avenue, Warren, IN 46792.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Alzheimer’s Unit at Heritage Pointe in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
