Jay R. Briggs, 90, Huntington, IN, passed away on July 6, 2016 at his residence in Huntington, IN.
Mr. Briggs was born on July 7, 1925, in Spencerville, OH, to Raymond H. and Frances D. (Costello) Briggs Richardson. His parents and his step-father, Harrison Richardson, preceded him in death. He married M. Marie Frewer on January 11, 1948. She preceded him in death on February 24, 1983.
Mr. Briggs graduated from Huntington Township High School in 1943. He served in the United States Army Air Corps from January, 1944 to December, 1945 during WWII.
He spent his career working at 1st National Bank for 30 years, where he retired as Vice President and he worked for 10 years as a loan officer at Bippus State Bank in Huntington, IN. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Huntington, IN, Huntington Lions Club, and the Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by one daughter, Susan (Phil) Brown, Huntington, IN; one son, Stacey L. Briggs, Elwood, IN; his longtime companion, Fran O’Brien and her children and grandchildren. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Shane Briggs, Aric Brown, Jordan Brown, Makenna Briggs, Keaton Briggs and Cadence Briggs.
Along with his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one step-sister, Mable Richardson.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2016 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 11, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. with calling one hour prior at 9:00 a.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750 with Reverend Richard Bunnell officiating.
Burial will be in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery, Huntington, IN.
