Jarod Christopher Coats, 46, Fairmount, died at 4:48 p.m. on Thursday, September 14, 2017, at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis. A lifelong resident of Grant County, Jarod was born on May 15, 1971, in Marion to Raymond and Judy (Lines) Coats. He married Rachel Spring Adamson on August 13, 1994, and she survives.

A 1989 graduate of Marion High School, Jarod proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He was awarded the Army Service Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, and Parachute Badge, and he was qualified as an M16 Marksman and a Hand Grenade Marksman. Jarod received his Associate’s degree in Carpentry from Ivy Tech and previously worked at IMI, as well as at his father’s auto body business. More recently, he was employed at Bowman Construction in Marion, where he was the Superintendent Carpenter for 13 years.

All who knew Jarod will remember what a hard worker he was. He enjoyed fishing, riding his Harley, and working on cars. More than anything, he was very proud of his family, especially his wife and children.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Rachel; children, Allie (Steven Snider) Lewis and Arlen (Alexandra Greenwald) Coats; sister, April (Fred) Stevens; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his cat, Tom, and his dog, Daisy.

His grandparents, Leroy (Mildred) Coats and Wilbur (Mary) Lines, preceded him in death.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services to celebrate Jarod’s life will be held at the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 20, 2017, followed by military honors. Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger will be officiating with burial taking place at a later date at Marion National Cemetery.
