Janice L. Cortner, 85, Gas City, died on Sunday, September 3, 2017, in her residence. She was born on November 29, 1931, in Carter County, Kentucky, to the late Clarence and Nellie (Salyers) Jones. Janice was a 1950 graduate of Olive Hill High School, Kentucky. She married Orvin R. Cortner on October 31, 1952, and he preceded her in death on May 5, 2013.

Janice was a library clerk for the Mississinewa School Systems, retiring after 22 years and was a member of the New Life Fellowship Church. She enjoyed babysitting, camping, and sewing. Janice was a devoted Christian, loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her sons, Donald Cortner and Michael (Mary Jo) Cortner; daughter, Melissa (Harvey) Philebaum; grandchildren, Leslie Boyd, Nola Hinkle, Erica Cortner, and Jessica Cortner; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Joyce (Dick) Quiggins and Barbara (Larry) Johnson; and brothers, John (Betty) Jones and Waverly (Deloris) Jones.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janice was preceded in death by her grandson, Jacob Cortner.

The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 East Main St., Gas City, IN 46933.

A funeral service for Janice will begin at 12:30 p.m. immediately following visitation at the funeral home, with Pastor Bill Sherfy officiating. Burial will follow in Marion National Cemetery.
