James “Jim” R. Gibson, 60, Marion, was surrounded by his loving family when he died at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, 2016, at IU Med Center in Indianapolis. He was born in Harlan, Kentucky, to the late Dewey and Ethel (Goins) Gibson. Jim married Cindy Strausbaugh on May 28, 1974, and she survives.

Jim was a 1974 graduate of Marion High School and was a lab worker for 20 years at the Chrysler Transmission Plant in Kokomo. He held memberships with the Moose Lodge and American Legion, and he attended Southside Wesleyan Church in Gas City.

Jim was the type of guy who never met a stranger. He was always to the point and you knew where you stood with him. Jim enjoyed fishing and spending time at Ridinger Lake and Jellystone. He loved antique cars, going to flea markets, watching racing and football, and collecting antiques and Simpsons memorabilia. Homer Simpson was his hero. Jim also loved country music, and Texas Hold ‘Em was his favorite card game. More than anything, though, Jim loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Cindy, of 42 years; daughters, Christie (Dennis) Crist and Jamie Crist, both from Marion; grandchildren, Stephen (Cindie) Crist, Dylan Crist, Jacob Crist, Zachary Crist, and Kobe Crist; great-grandson, Colson Crist; brothers, William Gibson, Paul Gibson, Fred (Teddy) Gibson, Robert Gibson, Don (Martha) Gibson, and Jock (Sherry) Gibson; and sister, Lucille (Michael) Connor.

Family and friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, 400 E. Main St., Gas City.

Services for Jim will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at the funeral home with Pastor Doug Sharrard officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Cancer Services of Grant County, Tower Suites, 305 S. Norton Ave., Marion, IN 46952.
