James Ira Nickels, 64, of Peru died due to lung complications at 9:55am on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in the privacy of his home, surrounded by friends and loved ones.

He was born on July 22, 1951 in Peru, Indiana to James Walter Nickels and Dona E. Nickels Sivits.

Mr. Nickels special significant partner in life, Janie Louise Salkill survives.  Ms. Salkill’s children were also a special part of Mr. Nickels life: Paul Edwin Wyatt (Brittney) of Peru, and Stephanie Ann Wyatt of Peru, along with six of Ms. Salkill’s grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Other survivors include: one son, Robert James Nickels (Jessica Patrick) of Osceola, Indiana, and one daughter, Crystal Kay Cola, also of Osceola.  Also surviving are four grandchildren: Heather Nickels, Peru; Alexander Wilk, Osceola; Brady Miller, Peru; and Riley Nickels, Peru.  Also, four great-grandchildren: Zoey Nickels, Peru; Adylyne, Peru; Parker Rolsten, Peru; and Anthony Rolsten, Jr., Peru.

Other survivors include: one brother, Charles Nickels, Logansport; two sisters, Rosemarie Homme (Randall Homme Sr.) of Logansport, and Beverly Nickels of Logansport.  Three step-sisters: Linda Rinehart, Logansport; Rebecca Jackson, Logansport; Laura Hobbs, Logansport; and Kathy Nickels, sister-in-law, Logansport.

Other survivors include several nieces and nephews: Everett Nickels, Peru; Jennifer Nickels, Logansport; Melissa Nickels, Kokomo; Amy Waggoner, Peru; Jeremiah Waggoner, Peru; Heather Bowman, Peru; Charlotte Hall, West Lafayette; Rusty Waggoner, Peru; James Walter Nickels, Kokomo, Randall Homme Jr., Kokomo; and Shawn Homme; along with several great nieces and nephews.

Also surviving include: Uncle Bob Sivits, Peru; Aunt Donna Tyre, Ohio; Aunt Bonnie J. Miller; Aunt Betty Saundersand; Aunt Susie Nickels, Logansport; and Uncle Charles Sivits, Texas.

Preceding in death include: brother Micheal Nickels, Logansport; father James Walter Nickels; mother Dona E. Nickels Sivits; one infant brother, two nephews from brother Micheal Nickesl (Kathy), and several other aunts and uncles.

Mr. Nickels retired from Moons Fabricating in Kokomo as a professional welder and rubber liner.  And as he would tell you himself… “I’m a jack of all trades, but a master of none.”

Services will be held at Mr. Nickels home, located at 60 East Jefferson Ave., Peru, Indiana on Saturday, July 23rd, 2016.  There will be a eulogy held, beginning at 11:30am.  Catering for food will be provided by Kroger directly afterward, with a family rummy and poker party to be held in the family home and garage afterward, for the wake requested by Mr. Nickels.  The wake will be in celebration of his life and his birthday, held together at the same time.  All are welcome.
