James H. Shawver, 81, of Converse, passed away at 2:45 A.M., Friday, November 11, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Oak Hill, WV, on November 28, 1934 the son of William and Charlott Bible Shawver. Jim married Maxie Ross in Westerville, OH on February 14, 1970 and she survives. Jim was a graduate of Oak Hill WV High School and he was employed at Alcan Aluminum Industry as a Maintenance Superintendent retiring in 1992. A US Navy Korean War Veteran, his Military decorations include the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal and the Nation Defense Service Medal. Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge and an avid outdoorsman, where he thoroughly enjoyed fishing and hunting. Surviving in addition to his wife, Maxie, are sons, James H. Shawver, Jr. and his wife Brenda of Scottsburg, IN, Shawn W. Shawver and his wife Georgeann of Kokomo and Jonathan C. Shawver of Kokomo, a daughter Lori M Shawver and Cleveland Mercer of Kokomo, grandchildren Tyler J. Shawver, Jesse W. Shawver, Zakah L. Shawver Tobolinsky, Summer R. Shawver, Garison C. Shawver, Gabriel J. Shawver, Kaleigha N. Shawver, Cleveland J. Shawver and Kamillah S. Mercer and great-grandchildren, Elynore R. Shawver and Kanence M. Shawver. He was preceded in death by his parents, a granddaughter, Hannah M. Shawver, two brothers and three sisters. A service celebrating the life of James S. Shawver, will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 18, 2016 at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home, 201 North Main, Amboy with Pastor Paul Capps officiating. Burial will be in the Bond Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 2:00 to 8:00 P.M, Thursday, at the Laird-Eddy Funeral Home.
