James Fredrick Walter, 85, went peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior at 8:25 a.m. on September 7, 2016, at Colonial Oaks, surrounded by his family. He was born on November 24, 1930 in South Whitley, IN to the late George and Myrtle Walter. He was a graduate of Columbia City High School and received a Mechanical Engineering Degree from Purdue University. He married Lois Culbertson on October 14, 1951 in Columbia City, IN.

Jim proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Atlas Foundry in Marion, IN after 29 years of employment as the plant engineer. He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where he taught Sunday School and volunteered many hours helping with renovations throughout the years. Jim was a talented woodworker and enjoyed using his skills to restore antique clocks and build items enjoyed by family and friends.

Survivors include his five children Dan Walter, Marion, IN. Tom (Sherry) Walter, Monticello, IN, George (Ann) Walter, Unionville Center, OH, Kathy (Kevin) Walter Feltz, New Carlisle, IN, and Cindy (Kim) Walter Kohlmorgen, Fairmount, IN. Eleven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Lois.

Services will be held 1 P.M. Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, with Brian Clark officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 11-1 on Saturday at the funeral home.
