James F. Phelps, 67, passed away on November 7, 2016 at Parkview Regional Hospital in Fort Wayne. Jim was born on October 10, 1949 in Shelbyville, Indiana to Roy and Shirley (Rondell) Phelps. Jim married Gwendolon L. (Marks) Phelps on May 28, 1994.
Jim worked as an IT specialist for the Salvation Army for more than 20 years. He was very intrigued by genealogy and spent much time studying it.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Gwendolon, Marion, IN; son, Chad (David) Walsh-Phelps, Grand Rapids, MI; 3 step-sons, Paul (Polly) Scott, Anderson, IN, Arlen (Lorinda) Scott, Marion, IN, and Robert (Tricia) Scott, Muncie, IN; brother, Robert (Cheryl) Phelps, Marion, IN; sister, Kim (Doug) Winters, Marquette, MI; 7 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the College Park Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, Indiana. A visitation has been set for Saturday, November 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the College Park Chapel, with a funeral service honoring Jim following at 12:00 p.m.
