James E. “Jim” Underwood

James E. “Jim” Underwood,  69,  of Fairmount, died Tuesday, May 24, 2016,  at Marion General Hospital.

Jim was born in Grant County to Gerrald Underwood and  Barbara Winans Underwood on October 14, 1946.  He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1964 and served in the Army for 2 years.  Jim married his best friend and love of his life, Jane Ford.   He was a meat cutter for 43 years in the family business, Underwood and Sons Meat Market.  He later worked at Amcast and was currently employed at North American Manufacturing as a fabricator.  Jim worked hard his whole life and didn’t believe in being idle, earning respect and admiration from his co-workers.

Jim enjoyed golfing with his buddies, Jim Hamilton, Dee Harvey, Ed Trice and his brother  Mike Underwood.   Jim was a family man who loved being a grandpa.  He loved hanging out in the barn with his son-in-laws  and grandsons teaching them to work on their vehicles.   Jim was a member of the Fairmount American Legion Post 313.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jane,

three daughters;  Traci (Todd) Peacock, Fairmount, IN

Terri (Danny) Swim, Leo, IN

and Jami (Virgil Jr.) Heater, Fowlerton, IN

mother, Barbara Underwood, brothers: Terry (Vicki) Underwood and Mike Underwood,  all of Fairmount,  brothers-in-law;  Scott (Nancy) Ford, Colorado and Jim (Teri) Ford, Florida.

Seven Grandchildren; Jake Heater, Erin Peacock, Seth (Rose) Heater, Clint Peacock, Savannah Swim, Randy Swim and Justin Swim and two great-grandchildren: Clay and Aubree Heater.

Jim was preceded in death by his father Gerrald Underwood, his son Judd Underwood ,  sister-in-law Elaine Underwood, and brother-in-law Donnie Ford.

 

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 415 S. Main Street, Fairmount, Indiana  where the family will receive friends on Saturday, May 28, 2016 from 10 AM – 2 PM with a funeral service following at 2 PM with pastor Brock Meyer officiating.  Interment will be at a later date at Park Cemetery, Fairmount, Indiana.
