Jackie H. Burns

Jackie H. Burns, 81, passed away at Marion General Hospital on October 23, 2017. He was born on August 6, 1936 to the late Everett and Lucille (Anderson) Burns.

Jack was a 1954 graduate of Marion High School and continued his education at Fort Wayne Business College where he earned his accounting degree. On weekends, after school and during the summer months Jack worked for his father and uncle’s service station, Burns Brothers. After his graduation from college he moved to Detroit to work for Cadillac until an opening at Fisher Body in Marion became available.

While working at Fisher Body he met Marydee Smith and a year later on January 18, 1958 they were married. Mrs. Burns survives. Jack worked for General Motors for thirty-five+ years until his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and he played in the city fast pitch softball league for 45 years. Jack never knew a stranger in his neighborhood and was often referred to as the Mayor of Burnsville. Nothing got by his watchful eye!

Jack is survived by his children, John (Jenn) Burns; Rob (Holly) Burns, both of Marion; Steve (Kerry) Burns, Camby; Dave (Connie) Burns, Roanoke; sister-in-law, Gladys Burns, Marion; grandson, Connor (Megan) Burns; great-granddaughter, Sophee Dee Burns.

He is also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Burns; his sister and his brother-in-law, Sue and John Sprinkle.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00am on Friday, October 27, 2017 in St. Paul Catholic Church, 1031 W. Kem Rd., Marion, Indiana, with Rev. Richard Weisenberger officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Estates of Serenity Cemetery, 2225 South Lincoln Blvd, Marion, Indiana.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2017 from 5-730pm.The vigil service beginning at 7:30pm in Owen-Weilert-Duncan Funeral Home, Marion Chapel, 2722 South Washington Street, Marion, Indiana.

Sixteen years ago Jack was a recipient of a heart transplant. Because of the loving act of a donor he was able live a healthy and happy life.
