Hugh “Rudy” Rudolph, 83 of Peru passed away Saturday afternoon, September 10, 2016 at his residence. He was born in Lowndes County, AL on October 9, 1932 the son of Mac and Clara D. Hardy Rudolph. Rudy married Zelma Thomas in Selma, AL on December 30, 1961 and she survives. Rudy graduated from Hudson High School in Selma, AL and served as a Master Sergeant in the United States Air Force for 24 years retiring on January 31, 1977. His Military Declarations include the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. Following retirement from the Air Force Rudy was employed at General Motors in Marion, IN. Rudy was a member of the Peru Church of the Brethren where he served on the Church Board and head of the Ushers. He also served with the Miami County United Way, Big Brothers and Big Sisters and volunteered at Blair Pointe Health Campus. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and gardening and was a member of the Retiree Golf Groups of Peru and Kokomo. Surviving in addition to his wife Zelma are daughters Diane Burke of Montgomery, AL and Merlene Ellsberry and her husband Herman of Birmingham, AL; a godson Shawn Thomas of Kokomo, IN, sisters Deola Gordon and Lola Rudolph, brothers Roosevelt Rudolph, Aheart Rudolph and Henry Rudolph. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister Whantha Nelson and brothers Willie Mac Rudolph and Ulysses Rudolph. A service celebrating the life Hugh “Rudy” Rudolph will be at 10:30 AM Thursday, September 15, 2016 at the Peru Church of the Brethren, 134 E. 5th Street, Peru, IN with Pastor Phil Cruea officiating, Burial will be at the Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN with Military Graveside Services provided by the Miami County Military Rites Unit. Family and friends will gather from 4:30-8:00 PM Wednesday at the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, 84 W. Main Street, Peru, IN. In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be made through the funeral home to the Peru Church of the Brethren.
