Howard L. McClellan, 85, Upland, died peacefully at home Tuesday evening, with family by his side.

He was born in Delaware County, the son of the late Ernest and Jennie (Skillen), McClellan.

Howard, who had lived in Delaware and Grant Counties all of his life, graduated from Jefferson Township High School, Upland, in 1949.

Mr. McClellan served in the United States Army from 1954-1956, during the Korean Conflict.

On July 2, 1965, he married Carolyn Doss, in Matthews.

Howard loved working on the family farm and had been employed with Indiana Bell, RCA, and ABB, formerly Westinghouse, before his retirement. He also enjoyed woodworking and was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, Matthews, and Van Buren American Legion Post #368.

Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Carolyn, Upland; a daughter, Jill (Richard) Grimes, Frankfort; two sons, Jay McClellan, Alexandria, and Todd (Sally) McClellan, Matthews; a step-son, Tracy Williams, Upland; a sister, Colleen Shook, Monticello; 10 grandchildren, Lauri (Nick) Wainscott, Richelle (David) Morris, Ryan Grimes, Lindsay (Micah) Vandiver, Lance McClellan, Dakota (Regan) McClellan, Austin McClellan, Andrew (Sarah) Williams, Nick (Felicia) Williams, and Michaela Williams; twelve great grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Parrish.
