Herman Johnson, 74, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Friday, December 30, 2016, at 2:04 a.m. at Byron Health Center in Fort Wayne.
Herman was born on May 31, 1942, in Viper, KY, to Ora and Lucy Johnson. His parents preceded him in death. Herman married Daisy Woods on October 3, 1961 and they have been married for 55 years. She survives in Fort Wayne, IN.
Herman worked as a heavy equipment operator and a mason. He was formerly a paramedic and fire chief in Kentucky. Herman was an Ordained Minister at First Freewill Baptist Church. He was a Gospel musician and singer. He was also a member of the Freewill Baptist Conference.
Along with his wife, Herman is survived by two sons, Simmon (Misty) Johnson, Goshen, IN, and William “Boyd” (Danette) Johnson, Fort Wayne, IN; one daughter, Elizabeth Johnson, Fort Wayne, IN. He is also survived by two brothers, Danny Johnson, Hazard, KY, and Boyd(Ruth) Johnson, Tennessee; three sisters, Geraldine Fields, Huntington, IN, Kathy(Wendell) Kemplen, Hartford City, IN, and Carolyn Book, Angola, IN. He has 16 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, James E. Johnson, and Herman Johnson Jr.; one brother, Arthur Johnson and one sister, Patsy Guffy.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at First Freewill Baptist Church, 1805 Salamonie Avenue, Huntington, IN.
Additional calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, prior to the funeral from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at First Freewill Baptist Church, 1805 Salamonie Avenue, Huntington, IN with ministers, Brunk Conley and Tim Gillenwater.
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery, Andrews, IN.
