Herman G. “Jack” Ness, 88 of Huntington passed away at 8:45 pm on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Tipton Place. Jack was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in WWII with the 543rd Artillery Battalion overseas in Leyte. He was an active member and past Quarter Master of VFW Post 2689, American Legion and Knights of Columbus and was a member of the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He worked for over 40 years as a pressman at Our Sunday Visitor, retiring in 1992. He was an avid golfer and major sports fan, especially the Chicago Cubs, Indianapolis Colts and IU Basketball.
He was born on November 22, 1927 in Huntington, the son of Herman J. and Emma Frances (Pfister) Ness.
He was united in marriage to Norma L. Falck in January of 1950 in Huntington. He later married Lola Blessing, she preceded him in death in 2001.
Survivors include two daughters: Victoria (James) Thompson of Waterloo, IN; Lorraine Ness of Fort Wayne; two sons: Kim (Brenda) Ness of Huntington; Paul (Belinda) Ness of Fishers, IN; two step daughters: Vicki Biggs of Fort Wayne; Roxanne (Tom) Carpenter of Fort Wayne; two brothers: Charles (Susie) Ness of Miami, FL; Richard (Maureen) Ness of Huntington; one sister: Barbara Jane Steele of Huntington; four grandchildren, two great grandchildren and four step grandchildren.
He was preceded by one brother: Donald Ness and six sisters: Bernadette Sturgeon, Catherine Van Holten, Helen Mueller, Frances Bowen, Mary Double and Margo Koehlinger.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 21, 2016 from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 22, 2016 at 11:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Interment will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
