Henry K. McKissick

Henry K. McKissick, 77, passed away on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at Wesleyan Health Care Center, Marion, Indiana. He was born on May 20, 1940, in Goodwin, Arkansas, to the late John Henry and Josephine M. (Smith) McKissick. He graduated from Brinkley High School in Brinkley, Arkansas. He then attended the University of Arkansas in Pine Bluff, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. He married Shirley M. Barton on June, 9, 1966. She survives. Henry worked as a supervisor for the Federal Housing Administration for 30 years, retiring in 1996. He was raised in the Baptist church, accepting Christ at an early age. He briefly attended St. Paul Baptist Church in Marion. Henry was a member of the NAACP for 40 years, holding positions as secretary and treasurer. He loved fishing, taking care of his yard and gardening, and also enjoyed traveling. Henry enjoyed participating the Neighborhood Association in his area. But more than anything, Henry was a big family man. He always loved spending time with his family.

Along with his wife, Shirley, Henry is survived by two children, Dwayne H. McKissick and Felicia R. McKissick, both of Marion; one sister, Ada Watson, AR; two brothers, Scott (Jonnie) McKissick and David J. Mckissick, both of AR; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Josephine McKissick; daughter, Kimberly D. McKissick; one sister, Annie Glass; and three brothers, Ransome, William, and John T. McKissick.

Arrangements for Henry’s care have been entrusted to Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Services College Park Chapel, 4601 S. Western Ave., Marion, Indiana. Services for Henry are pending.
