Helen Ruth Moreland

Helen Ruth Moreland, 96, Marion, died at 5:40 p.m. on Friday, December 29, 2017, at Marion Rehab and Assisted Living. She was born in Kokomo on March 23, 1921, to the late Mort and Edith (Durham) Bogue.

After graduating from Kokomo High School, she moved to Marion where she met and married James Moreland on June 15, 1940. He preceded her in death in 1980. Both of them went to work at Delta Electric during the early ’40s. Helen joined the IBEW Labor Union and traveled the country for union workers.

In 1969, Helen was hired by the United Way of Grant County as the first labor staff liaison they had ever hired. She retired in 1986 but stay involved in community service work. In 1992, Helen became Volunteer Director of the YWCA to help build their finances. Since she loved to travel, the YWCA Tour Program was started and she took many trips and tours with the organization all over the world. Helen also loved to crochet, and she made many beautiful afghans for friends and family.

She is survived by one daughter, Delona (S. Allen) Johnson, Marion; three granddaughters, Tanya (Chris) Armstrong, Branson, Missouri, Debbie (Manny) Flint, Fort Myers, Florida, and Stacy Johnson, Marion; five great-grandchildren, Sarah, Michael, Chad, Jennifer, and Austin; two great-great-grandchildren, Gracie and Easton, and three special friends, Chuck (Melva) Franklin and Karen Karchner.

The family had a graveside service for Helen at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at Gardens of Memory with Rev. Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating.

Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion.
