Helen M. Van DeWater, 91, Marion, went to be with the Lord at 4:20 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion, where she had lived for the past ten years. She was born in Marion on February 3, 1926, to Adam and Sophie (Levenski) Pevas and was a lifelong resident of the area. Helen married Warren N. Van DeWater on September 4, 1948, and he preceded her in death in April of 1996.

Helen worked at Anaconda for five years and was a homemaker for the rest of her life. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Daughters of Isabella, Rosary Society, Cart Creek Extension Homemakers, and Pleasant Center Farm Club. She enjoyed playing Skip-Bo and Bingo, gardening, and spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include her son, Robert G. (Sharon) Van DeWater, Denton, Texas; daughters, Mary Hall, Marion, and Patty (Mike) Emmert, Darlington; daughter-in-law, Cathy (David) Bettegnies, Marion; sisters, Stella (Richard) Phillips, Woodstock, Georgia, Mary Ann Pevas, Racine, Wisconsin, and Anne (Ron) Huseman, Granger; 13 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Howard Van DeWater, and her brothers, Walter Pevas, Adam Pevas, Jr., and Frank Pevas.

The family will receive visitors from 3-6 p.m. on Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017, at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating. Burial will follow at Grant Memorial Park.
