Helen Asher, age 79, of Huntington, passed away Thursday November 17, 2016 at 6:47 am at Parkview Huntington Hospital. With her husband, she co-owned Asher Grocery in Corinth, KY. She was a Kentucky Coronel, attended First Freewill Baptist Church, and was an excellent cook, gardener and canner, but her greatest love and devotion was to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Helen was born June 28, 1937, in Clay County, KY, the daughter of Lloyd and Anna Belle (Brumley) Downey. On June 27, 1953, she married her beloved husband of 60 years Arvil Lee Asher in Clay County, KY and he passed away September 20, 2013. She is survived by 7 children Brenda L. (Dave) Hoover of Huntington, Jesse L Asher of Huntington, Carolyn Sue (Clyde) Sprowl of Huntington, Edmond (Tina) Asher of Huntington, Ernest Wayne Asher of Huntington, Theresa D. (Bill) Kinsey of Huntington and Harley J. (Kelsey) Asher of Andrews, 7 grandchildren Christopher Asher, Wendy (Michael) Trosper, Blaise (Rosa) Sprowl, Amanda (Tim) Craft, Andrew (Stevie) Asher, Lily Asher and Mark-Vincent Asher, and 6 great- grandchildren Breanna Broxon, Carlie Broxon, Mia Sprowl, Estrella Sprowl, Bailey Trosper and Tucker Trosper. She was preceded in death by 4 sisters Simmie Black, Edna McCoy, Prudie Howell, and Myrtle Sizemore and 4 brothers George Downey, Jimmy Downey, Leslie Thomas Downey and Little Arvil Downey.
Visitation will be held Monday November 21 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Deal-Rice Funeral Home- Huntington Chapel. Graveside service will be at 1:00 pm at Masonic Cemetery, Warren.
