Harry L. “Shorty” Boggs

Harry L. “Shorty” Boggs, age 76, of Huntington, died at 10:19 p.m. Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at his home.

Visitation will be from 3 – 7 p.m. Monday, February 26, 2018 at Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana. Burial will be in Andrews Riverside Cemetery in Huntington County at a later date.

Preferred memorials are to Huntington County Humane Society, in care of Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 West Park Drive, Huntington, Indiana, 46750.

Harry was born on April 15, 1941 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of W. K. and Elizabeth (Simmons) Boggs. He married Rita Leona McNerney on June 12, 1961 in Huntington; she preceded him in death on June 23, 2009 after 48 years of marriage. Harry retired from K-Mart Warehouse in Manteno, Illinois after 30 years of service. He then retired from Stride Rite in Huntington, where he worked for over ten years. He was a member of ABATE of Indiana and he loved coon hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He enjoyed playing softball, riding his motorcycle, and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include a son, Harry L. (Destiny) Boggs II of Huntington, daughters Kelly Schlotter and Shannon (Duane) Huston, both of Andrews, brothers Harold (Edith) Boggs of Tennessee and Dennis (Patsy) Boggs of Huntington, sisters Shiela Boggs and Shirley (Virgil) Saint, both of Huntsville, Alabama, and a sister-in-law, Sue Boggs of Huntington. Also surviving are grandchildren Dennis Boggs, Leona Huston, Kabrina Boyd, Diamond Boggs, and Zac Boggs and great grandchildren Adrian Huston, Klarrissa Boyd, Serenity Boggs, and Kimber Boyd. Harry is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rita, brothers Nelson Boggs, Dicky Ray Boggs, and Phillip Boggs, sisters Sue Helton, Faye Mason, and Jackie Boggs, a son-in-law, Bary Schlotter, a granddaughter, Brittish Duncan, and a great grandson, Carson Boyd.
