Harry “Bill” Hentgen, 99, went to be with his Lord and Savior early Monday morning on July 10. Bill lived life to the fullest for 99 years. He never met a stranger! He was blessed to have two sweethearts, Betty (Aikman) Hentgen who preceded him in death in 1981, and Louise (Myers) who preceded him in death in 2016. Bill was a lifelong resident of Miami County. He was known and loved by many, including many of his Indian friends. He was very proud of his Indian name “White Buffalo”. He loved the Lord, his family, his friends, and his community! Bill worked for the Square D. Company for 42 years and 3 months. He has been retired for 35 years. He was a member of the PHS Class of 1937. He was accepted into the US Army in 1944 for limited military service. He was a member of the Peru First Baptist Church since 1952, and an honorary member of the Oakdale Baptist Church. He volunteered with the Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for 50 years and served as Chaplain for 30 years. He was a Past Worshipful Master. He was a member of the Miami County Historical Society where he worked on the yearly calendar for many years. He has been a member of the Moose Lodge since 1970, and a member of the Scottish Rite. He supported many organizations throughout the years. Bill and his first wife, Betty, had three sons: Danny (Kim) Hentgen, Peru, John (Gloria) Hentgen, Nyona Lake, Terry Hentgen Deceased, and a daughter in-in-law, Kay (Larry) Martin, Peru. Grandchildren include Kerri (Joe) Lester, Peru, Kristin (Larry) Fielstra, Nappanee, Tara (Ryan) Geisel, Elkhart, Debbie (Konnie) Hentgen, Lafayette, John Michael (Ami) Hentgen Peru, Angie (Todd) Stuber, Peru, Cory (Karen) Hentgen, Ft. Wayne, and Chip Hentgen and his fiancée Jessica, Peru. Bill inherited more family when he married Louise who had 5 children from a previous marriage. Dennis (Karen) Weideman, Lebanon, OH, Gary (Linda) Weideman, Bloomington, Debbie Kinney, Ft Wayne, David (Toni) Weideman, Kokomo, and Brian (Teresa) Weideman, Milford. Grandchildren include Lisa (Benton) Cook, Lebanon, OH, Mike (Rhonda) Weideman, Pana IL, Jamie (John) Ridner, Bloomington, Danny (Marie) David, Peru Angie (David) Wallace, Spencerville, Dawn Kutza, Bloomington, Kelsey Weideman, Carmel, and Kyle Weideman, Milford, a sister Pat Danner of Anderson, 31 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Georgia Hentgen, wives, Betty and Louise, a son, Terry, a brother, Miller, and sisters Louanna Kauffman, Iris Stuber and Lucille Roby. A service celebrating the life of Harry “Bill” Hentgen will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 13, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, 53 West Main Street, Peru with the Rev. Dr. Robert Stuck and Pastor Robert Adelsperger officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Family and friends will gather from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the First Baptist Church and one hour prior to the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church or the Oakdale Baptist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Eikenberry-Eddy Funeral Home, Peru.
