Harriett “Jeannine” Black, 84, Swayzee, died at 10:31 p.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017, in Marion General Hospital. She was born in Elwood to the late Harry A. and Sylvia (Stout) Singer.

Jeannine attended Elwood High School, and she married James “Jim” F. Black in April of 1982. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2015. Jeannine was a homemaker and spent her life serving her family, who especially loved her coffee cake. According to her grandchildren, there was no better coffee cake around than their grandma’s. She made the best!

Jeannine was a life member of Howard Chapel Wesleyan Church and attended Swayzee Christian Church, where she played both piano and organ. Her love for the Lord and gospel music led her to join the Singing Singer Sisters, with whom she sang and played the piano. Her ministries touched many lives throughout the years.

Loved ones to cherish Jeannine’s memory include her daughters, Linda (Noel) Martin, Swayzee, and Kathy (Allen) James, Marion; brother, Melvin (Rita) Singer, Lafayette; grandchildren, Ryan (Alexandra) Martin, Shawn Martin, Weston (Tricia) James, Jill (Jose) Frias, and Julie (Jason) Hale; 9 great-grandchildren; and special niece and nephew, Marsha and Jay Beall.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Aubrey Eugene Estes, and her sisters, Crystal Browning and Carolyn Hendricks.

The family will receive visitors from 4-8 p.m. on Monday, June 19, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee.

A funeral service to celebrate Jeannine’s life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at the funeral home with Pastor David Stout officiating. Burial will follow at Thrailkill Cemetery.
