Harold Ugene Ramer, 90, of Peru passed away on August 24, 2016 at Blair Ridge in Peru.

He was born in Peru on July 31, 1926 to Howard and Lucy (Glassburn) Ramer.  He Married Nellie Jean Ramer in 1948.  She survives.

Harold served on the LCT584 Landing Craft Tank.  He was the Skipper of the 300-foot Army LCT.  As the Skipper, he was over five crewmen.  Harold started working before the age of 21 for the C&O Railroad, and finally CSX.  He retired at age 60, around 40 years as a brakeman or conductor.  He also worked for 14 years transporting trailers for Horizon Transportation.  He was a member of the Parkview United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed fishing, camping and spending time with his family.  He also loved being in church every Sunday.

He is survived by his wife, as well as four children: Thomas (Beverly) Ramer, Galveston, IN; Linda (Ron) Woodruff, Akron, IN; Teresa Church, Fort Wayne, IN; and Michael (Angie) Ramer, Peru, IN.  Also, seven grandchildren: Tamara Ramer, Cincinnati, OH; Matt Rager, Chicago, IL; Andre Rager, Mentone, IN; Beth (Tony) Rawe, Cincinnati, OH; Michael Ramer (Joanna), Peru, IN; Jennifer (Jared) Schortgen, Fort Wayne, IN; and Katlain Ramer, Kokomo, IN.  Also, seven great-grandchildren: Sidney Ramer, Peru, IN; Sean Ramer, Peru, IN; Heath Schortgen, Fort Wayne, IN; Laci Rager, Mentone, IN; Thaddeus Schortgen, Fort Wayne, IN; Nolan Rawe, Cincinnati, OH; and Isabella Ramer, Kokomo, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Lloyd Wissinger, a sister Willadean Fisher, and a sone, Eric Alan Ramer.

Friends may call from 1:00 – 4:00 pm on Sunday, August 28, 2016 at the Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home, 105 West Third Street, Peru.  Funeral services will be held at the Parkview United Methodist Church on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 10:00 am.  Pastors Bob Clark and Catherine Koziatek will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Ever Rest Memorial Park, Cass County, Indiana with military service provided by the Miami County Military Rites Team.
