Harold A. Waikel

Harold A. Waikel, 75, of Huntington, IN, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2018, at 7:10 a.m. at his residence.

Harold was born on April 9, 1942, in Huntington, IN, to Jack and Betty (Adams) Waikel. He married Alice DeWitt on November 23, 1965. She survives and resides in Huntington.

Harold was a 1960 graduate of Huntington High School. He served in the United States Navy for four years. Harold retired from the Wire Mill at GE after 38 ½ years of service. He was a member of the First Brethren Church, Huntington, IN, VFW #10006, 40 et 8 (American Legion Post 88), both of Fort Wayne, IN, and American Legion Post #160, Roanoke, IN.

Harold enjoyed being with his family, working outdoors, watching and caring for birds, watching Nascar and sporting events.

Harold is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice; three sons, Rick (Carmen) Waikel, Huntington, IN, Rodney Waikel, Peru, IN, Scott (Ashley) Waikel, Huntington, IN; one daughter, Deb (Brad) Princell, Markle, IN; one sister, Karen Sue Wilson, Newago, MI; 10 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

Along with his parents he was preceded in death by one brother, Brian Waikel.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 14, 2017, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson St., Huntington, IN.

A Funeral Service will follow the calling hours at the funeral home on Sunday, January 14, 2017, at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Gus Hacker officiating.

A private burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society or Visiting Nurse & Hospice in care of McElhaney-Hart Funeral Home, 715 N. Jefferson Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
