Glenn E. Futrell, 89, Marion, died at Marion VA Medical Center at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 9, 2017. He was born in Delaware County to Frank and Opal (Runyon) Futrell. On July 2, 1947, he married Mary Jane Simmons, and she survives.

A U.S. Navy veteran, Glenn served during World War II. Following his military service, he worked for the fire department as a driver/firefighter and retired after 20 years. Glenn also worked 20 years with Moorehead Electric, where he was a truck driver and made deliveries. He was a member of Van Buren American Legion Post 368 and served on city council for four years.

Some of Glenn’s favorite hobbies and interests included golfing and woodworking especially. He loved to build furniture and did several renovations of kitchens, bedrooms, and local homes. Most of all, Glenn loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending all of their events.

Loved ones to cherish his memory include his wife of 69 years, Mary Jane; daughters, Rita (Michael) Stefanski, Elkhart, and Brenda (Michael) Schadler, Marion; daughter-in-law, Cathy Futrell, Henderson, Arizona; grandchildren, Eric (Stacey) Paille, Noblesville, Shanna (Edward) Washington, Arizona, Shane Futrell, Arizona, Scott (Jennifer) Shaffer, Greentown, Brooke (Nathan) Hundt, Plymouth, and Justin (Melinda) Schadler, Arcadia; 10 great-grandchildren; aunt, Francis Huston; and sisters-in-law, Mary Louise Futrell and Joan Futrell.

In addition to his parents, preceding him in death were his son, Kem Futrell, and brothers, William Joseph Futrell, Jerry Lynn Futrell, Sr., and Rodney Futrell.

Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.

Services for Glenn are at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017, at the funeral home with Rev. Ben Gray officiating.
