Gertrude A. “Gertie” Hiers, 87, Mexico, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, November 20, 2017, at her residence.
Born August 1, 1930, in Mexico, Indiana, she was the daughter of Henry and Edna Miller Swayer. On April 17, 1949, at the Mexico Church of the Brethren, she was married to Melvin Hiers, and he survives.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Trudi (David) Gibson, Terre Haute; Becky (CL) Lutz, Peru; and Kim (Tim) Deardorff, Rossville; grandchildren, Hilary (Ben) Gibson-Blank, Heather (Brian) Thomas, Hali (Josh) Cartee, Heidi Gibson, Kellie (Steve) Gochenour, Kevin (Lutz), Greg (Jamie) Deardorff; Joe (Stacie) Deardorff; Ross (Margaret) Deardorff; nineteen great-grandchildren; and one sister, Erma Bowyer, Peru.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, John, Byron, and Charles Swayer.
